Visioning Workshop Recap

20190928_110402With social media being a prevalent form of conversation in social, work, and civic life, do people sit down and talk to one another face-to-face anymore about important things? More than 55 people in Ridgewood did just that last month during the two Visioning Workshops held as part of the Our Village, Our Future master plan visioning process.

Visit the Reports section of the website to download a summary of the Visioning Workshops in addition to the exhibit boards that were on display.

Next Visioning Workshop: 9/28

DSC00587Twenty-five Ridgewood residents braved the beautiful weather to spend their mornings in Village Hall to talk about priorities and principles for the Village’s next Master Plan.

Aaron Deutsch, a workshop participant who moved to Ridgewood from Manhattan two years ago, found the workshop to be very constructive.

That residents care deeply about the Village is without question,” Deutsch said. “What surprised me was the level of consensus that I saw in our multi-generational groups. There is no replacement for face-to-face time with your neighbors. I would encourage anyone who hasn’t yet attended to come to the second workshop this Saturday.”

The next Visioning Workshop will take place this Saturday, September 28 at Village Hall.

The Visioning Workshops

Ridgewood residents, business-owners, and all other Village stakeholders are invited to participate in one of two Visioning Workshops for Our Village, Our Future, the Visioning Process for Ridgewood’s Next Master Plan. The workshops are scheduled for consecutive Saturdays, September 21 and September 28, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Village Hall (1st floor). The format and content of both workshops will be the same, so mark your calendars with the workshop date that best suits your schedule. An agenda for the workshops will be posted to this website next week.

The purpose of the Visioning Workshops is to bring together Village stakeholders to:

  • Discuss the observations, findings, and results of the Visioning Questionnaire and the potential values, goals, and priority topics for the Village’s next Master Plan that emerge from these results.
  • Deliberate over several of the “Key Questions to Consider” that are listed at the end of the Visioning Questionnaire Summary of Results presentation.
  • Evaluate the “Emerging Principles” that were identified during the focus groups and small group discussions that took place over the past year (see the Village Voices section of the website for highlights).

Optional Registration. To register for one of the workshops, click here. Registration is not required, but registering would be helpful to the workshop organizers so they can get a sense of how many people might participate.

Results of the Visioning Questionnaire

More than 2,000 people completed the Visioning Questionnaire, which was launched in October 2018 and closed in May 2019. We spent the summer analyzing the data, which includes reading through the thousands of responses to the short answer questions. We summarized the key findings into a presentation that can be downloaded by clicking on the link below. We also compiled and analyzed the information from the Map Your Vision Tool and prepared a similar presentation that summarizes its results.

The Visioning Questionnaire Summary of Results presentation highlights the outcomes of each question. It also provides commentary about the results that includes excerpts from people’s responses to the short answer questions. The commentary ends with a series of critical Key Questions to Consider that will be discussed in detail at next month’s Visioning Workshops, which are currently scheduled for Saturday, September 21 and Saturday, September 28 at Village Hall. More details on the workshops to come shortly after you return from the Labor Day Holiday!

If you have any comments, questions, and/or reactions about either of these presentations, please send them through the Contact page.

Village Voices: A Neighborly Discussion

Since the launch of Our Village, Our Future, we’ve offered several ways for you to help out with the visioning process: promoting it online; posting or distributing promotional materials around town or at upcoming events; conducting audio or video interviews of people; and facilitating a discussion with your neighbors or fellow members of an organization. One resident sent us an e-mail expressing interest in convening a group of people for a discussion about Ridgewood today and into the future. Village Voices: Seniors

Ridgewood is known for being a “family town,” owing to a well-regarded school system located in a safe community. But Ridgewood is not just a family town; it’s also a community of older adults living in a Village that provides, along with other organizations, supportive services to ensure active and healthy lives.
