Detailed Timeline of Next Steps

We are pleased to present a detailed timeline for the review, comment, completion, and adoption of the report that captures the outcomes of the Our Village, Our Future visioning process. As mentioned in a prior post, the approach being taken is to create a product that not only summarizes the outcomes of the visioning process, but that also serves as the first section of the Village’s next Master Plan—a required section that identifies objectives, principles, and other fundamental aspects of the Master Plan. Therefore, the report is titled Village of Ridgewood Master Plan – Section 1: Our Village, Our Future.

The following is a detailed timeline of all the steps involved in this process. As part of the first round of review of the report, the Master Plan Subcommittee has submitted a Preliminary Draft to the Planning Board. This was the first step.

Tuesday, February 18: Master Plan Subcommittee Submits Preliminary Draft to Planning Board. The Planning Board will review the Preliminary draft. During this time the Planning Board may also provide the draft to Council.

Tuesday, March 3: Planning Board Meeting. Highlights of the Preliminary Draft will be presented by the consultant, followed by a discussion with the Planning Board about the Preliminary Draft.

Wednesday, March 4: Village Council Work Session. Highlights of the Preliminary Draft will be presented by the consultant and the Master Plan Subcommittee, followed by a discussion with Council about the Preliminary Draft.

If the Planning Board and/or Council recommends any corrections or agreed-upon revisions to the Preliminary Draft, these will be recorded and an updated version of the Preliminary Draft will be produced.

Monday, March 9: Post Preliminary Draft on Website for Public Review & Comment. The Preliminary Draft will be posted on the Village’s website for the public to download. Several printed copies of the document will be available to review at Village Hall and the Library. Residents and other members of the public will have approximately three weeks to review the Preliminary Draft and submit comments.

Friday, March 27: Public Review & Comment Period Closes. All public comments will be compiled and organized.

Tuesday, April 7: Planning Board Meeting. A summary of the public comments received will be presented to the Planning Board and any potential revisions to the Preliminary Draft based on these comments will be identified and discussed.

Friday April 10: Produce Final Draft and Submit to Master Plan Subcommittee. A Final Draft will be produced that incorporates any revisions agreed upon during the April 7 Planning Board Meeting.

Tuesday, April 14: Master Plan Subcommittee Submits Final Draft to Planning Board. The Final Draft will be posted on the Village’s website.

Tuesday, May 5: Planning Board Meeting. The Planning Board will consider the Final Draft for adoption.

Updates to Next Steps (& More)

Updated Milestones. We will be updating the schedule for producing, submitting, and posting the Preliminary Draft of the first section of the Village’s next Master Plan shortly and post the revised timeline on this website.

Call for Photos. Have you taken any great photos in Ridgewood? We would like to feature in the document photos taken by residents that showcase life in Ridgewood during any season of the year. Here are some of the types of photos we’d like to include:

  • People using and enjoying Ridgewood’s parks and open spaces.
  • People using the library or other community-oriented facilities.
  • People at community events/festivals.
  • Special, lesser-known places in the Village.

Please e-mail photos to photos@visionridgewood.org (total size of all photos together should not exceed 10 megabytes) OR e-mail a link to an online photo gallery, Dropbox, or a similar type of service that contains downloadable versions of the photos you would like to submit. We will provide a photo credit if we include your photo in your report.

County Parks Master Plan Adopted. Bergen County adopted a Parks Master Plan in December 2019. The overarching goal of the plan is to identify the characteristics of the County’s recreation and open space system, accommodate the needs of current residents, and respond to projected future growth. This article summarizes the plan. The plan document can be downloaded from this link.

Next Step for Visioning

The next step of the Our Village, Our Future visioning process is to produce a report that communicates the outcomes of the visioning process, which are the priorities, principles, and goals of the Village’s next Master Plan. Rather than produce a stand-alone document, the approach being taken is to make this report the first section of the Village’s next Master Plan.

The production of this first section will include several review cycles of drafts of the section by the Planning Board’s Master Plan Subcommittee, the Planning Board, and the public. A draft will be available for the Ridgewood community to review in January. The following is a general timeline for this work:

November 2019

  • Complete First Draft
  • Submit to the Planning Board’s Master Plan Subcommittee for Review

December 2019

  • Review Comments with Planning Board’s Master Plan Subcommittee
  • Produce Preliminary Draft

January 2020

  • Submit Preliminary Draft to Planning Board
  • Post Preliminary Draft for Public Review (post on Village website + place paper copies at Library & Village Hall; review period will be approx. 16 days)
  • Compile and Respond to Comments Received
  • Prepare Final Draft

Visioning Workshop Recap

20190928_110402With social media being a prevalent form of conversation in social, work, and civic life, do people sit down and talk to one another face-to-face anymore about important things? More than 55 people in Ridgewood did just that last month during the two Visioning Workshops held as part of the Our Village, Our Future master plan visioning process.

Visit the Reports section of the website to download a summary of the Visioning Workshops in addition to the exhibit boards that were on display.

Next Visioning Workshop: 9/28

DSC00587Twenty-five Ridgewood residents braved the beautiful weather to spend their mornings in Village Hall to talk about priorities and principles for the Village’s next Master Plan.

Aaron Deutsch, a workshop participant who moved to Ridgewood from Manhattan two years ago, found the workshop to be very constructive.

That residents care deeply about the Village is without question,” Deutsch said. “What surprised me was the level of consensus that I saw in our multi-generational groups. There is no replacement for face-to-face time with your neighbors. I would encourage anyone who hasn’t yet attended to come to the second workshop this Saturday.”

The next Visioning Workshop will take place this Saturday, September 28 at Village Hall.
